OnLive Cloud Gaming Service set to launch for US in coming June

OnLive, a cloud gaming system, announced in September last year, has now get a launch date for US in GDC 2010. This service utilizes cloud computing to stream games directly into virtually any PC or Mac. Applications will run on hardware in a server farm, while users need only a low end hardware including OnLive’s own mini-console and broadband connection to connect in and play. So, there is no need to buy expensive consoles or PCs.

If you have a Net connection, a display, and an input device, then you can play any of its games. OnLive will always update its hardware. If you want to play it on a PC or a Mac, you have to use a small browser plugin and if you want to play it on TV, then use OnLive MicroConsole which has USB, Ethernet, HDMI and power i/o devices. OnLive will allow an amazing gaming experience on virtually any device, with same flexibility and instant play experience.

OnLive will require a 1.5 megabit per second service for standard definition video (480p) and a 5 megabit per second connection for HD (720p). OnLive is available for PC and Mac users only but later this year, users will be able to purchase a MicroConsole TV adapter that will bring OnLive functionality to their living area. OnLive features voice chat, gamertags, profiles and also allow pausing and resuming of games. With OnLive Game Service, you can play latest games without spending much money on a hardware system.

OnLive will cost you $14.95 a month to use. Company also promises that, first 25,000 users to register on OnLive Game Service will get three months free use. After eight years of research and development, finally OnLive will be available in US from June 17th,  2010.
