Lenovo intros ThinkPad L412 and L512 as ‘greenest’ laptops to date

After revealing two new consumer PCs, Lenovo has announced newest entrants to its ThinkPad range, the L-Series laptops, and according to company they’re the “greenest notebooks” on market. Designed for business, government and education customers, ThinkPad L412 and L512 laptops feature high performance with latest Intel processing technologies, tough durability and strong web conferencing.

Packing Intel Celeron, Core i3 and Core i5 processors together with either 14-inch 16:9 display on L412 or 15-inch 16:9 display on L512 laptop, the range of this new ThinkPad series kicks off at $649 but offers up to 8hrs of battery runtime.

The laptops come with:

  • Intel’s integrated chip-set or an ATI Mobility Radeon chip.
  • 3G/4G wireless connectivity options with Gobi 2000 module support for Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon.
  • Multitouch touchpads.
  • Expansion with 4 USB ports/powered, combo eSATA/USB port.
  • Support for DisplayPort and VGA.
  • Windows 7 with Lenovo Enhanced Experience featuring up to 57% faster boot-up and shutdown.

As for those earth-friendly claims, Lenovo say these new machines use up to 30% recycled content, such as old office water bottles and used IT equipment, to make LCD covers, palm rests and other casing components. They’re also 40% more energy efficient than generation of machines they replace.

The L512 laptop contains total 18% post consumer content (PCC), making it industry’s highest amount of PCC in a laptop. Each L-Series laptop saves equivalent of 10 plastic water bottles. The laptops meet Energy Star 5.0 for high energy efficiency and are rated EPEAT Gold in US for their environmental attributes.

Users can also deploy Lenovo’s Power Manager software tool to monitor and adjust their power settings. On sale from mid-May 2010, these new “greenest laptops” gets you a storage memory of 160GB HDD and 1GB of RAM.
