Intel 34nm NAND SSDs to be launched soon…
Rumors are growing louder that Intel is prepped to launch its new SSDs based on firm’s 34nm NAND chips within just a couple of weeks.
With these new 34nm NAND SSDs(Solid State Drives), users can expect higher performance, higher capacity of 320GB drive plus 160GB and 80GB capacities too , and most importantly, at lower prices almost replacing HDDs in most.
Pete Hazen, director of marketing at Intel’s NAND Products Group, noted that the emergence of IMFT’s 34nn chip will help push the ongoing consumer and business adoption of SSDs (Solid State Drives) by further expanding storage sizes and making the technology evermore favorable to hard disk alternatives.
Set to be manufactured on 300mm wafers, each producing approx 1.6TB of NAND, the new 34nm chips will measure a mere 172mm² and will be able to store more than 2,000 high-resolution photographs or up to 1,000 songs via a personal music/media player.
Intel is said to be really optimistic about prospects of SSDs in 2010, especially the smaller and cheaper process node along with SSD specific optimizations built into Windows 7.
