The battle has begun between two powerful Android smartphones. This time, Motorola Atrix 4G is standing against HTC Thunderbolt on the ring. As we know, Motorola Atrix 4G and HTC Thunderbolt are two 4G Android smartphones recently launched in the market. Both phones have Android’s FroYo version as pre-installed operating system and both are exclusive to popular carriers. HTC Thunderbolt is available on Verizon, while Atrix is carried by AT&T.

HTC Thunderbolt is the first Android 4G phone with Verizon’s LTE network on the market, while the Motorola Atrix 4G is the first smartphone to come with the a laptop dock and biometric fingerprint reader. Atrix 4G is considered as one of the most popular Android smartphone due to its compelling third-party docks that will allow to perform compelling tasks. HTC Thunderbolt impresses with its large screen size, while Atrix is equipped with a powerful dual-core processor.

Both phones are elegant, sleek and thin, therefore similar in terms of design. HTC Thunderbolt is little heavier and larger, weighing in at 164 grams and having a thickness of 13 mm, while Atrix weighs 135 grams and is 10.95 mm thick. Thunderbolt packs a 4.3-inch 480×800 pixels S-LCD display versus the Atrix 4G’s 4-inch 540×960 pixels TFT.

In the term of camera section, HTC Thunderbolt completely beats the Atrix 4G with its 8 MP rear-facing autofocus camera with dual-LED flash and face detection. It also has a second 1.3 MP front-facing camera. The Motorola Atrix is equipped with a 5 MP rear-facing autofocas camera, image stabilization with single LED flash and a secondary VGA camera up front. Both smartphones are capable of 720p video recording.

Heading to the hardware section. Here, Motorola Atrix 4G is absolutely the winner with its powerful 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 Dual Core processor and 1GB of RAM, while HTC Thunderbolt features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1 GHz processor and 768 MB of RAM. Thunderbolt features a pre-installed 32GB microSD card, but have only 8GB of internal space. The Atrix comes with 16GB of internal storage space and a microSD card slot which supports up to 32GB memory. Both devices support Bluetooth 2.1 and WiFi, 802.11 b/g/n, while the Thunderbolt also supports Verizon’s 4G LTE, the Atrix only supports AT&T’s 4G HSPA+ network.

There is also a big difference when it comes to pricing. According to Best Buy’s latest promo, HTC Thunderbolt is available for $249.99 with 2 years Verizon contract and $749.99 without commitment, while Motorola Atrix is available for $199.99 at AT&T with 2 years contract and $499.99 without any contract. It seems Thunderbolt’s pricing is obviously heavier compared to Motorola Atrix 4G.
