Burj Khalifa ~ The World’s Tallest Building in Dubai
Dubai, United Arab Emirates opened centerpiece of decade-long construction boom with the surprise revelation that 168-story Burj Khalifa. This world’s tallest tower, developed by Emaar Properties, was unveiled on January 4, 2010 with lasers, fountain displays and dramatic fireworks ceremony in the Gulf Emirate of Dubai.

Burj Khalifa, which translates to Khalifa Tower, is named after UAE President Khalifa Bin Zayed. The renaming of 828-meter or 2,717 feet tall structure came as a surprise as it had always been referred to as Burj Dubai. The design of Burj Khalifa inspired by flower Hymenocallis and it’s composed of three elements arranged around central core. There are 27 terraces in the tower and top & central core emerges. Engineers rotated building 120 degrees from its original layout to reduce stress from prevailing winds, during processing design.
The spire of Khalifa Tower is composed of 4,000 tonnes of structural steel. The central pinnacle pipe weighing 350 tonnes constructed from inside building and jacked to full height of 143 meters using strand jack system. The amazing building’s spire houses plant and facilitates for communications equipments.
Burj Khalifa tower is exceptionally compartmentalized. Pressurized, air-conditioned refuge floors are located at every floor where people can shelter on their long walk down to safety in case of an emergency or fire. ETA-Hitachi-Voltas has provided air conditioning for the Burj Khalifa.
The total budget for Burj Khalifa construction project is about US $1.5 billion. The price of office space at Burj Khalifa has reached US $4,000 per sq ft.
