Apple TV 3.0 software released with iTunes Extras, LP and Internet radio

Apple recently released their latest firmware for the Apple TV 3.0 software. It brings newly redesigned GUI and a number of new features, including iTunes LPs, iTunes Extras, Genius Mixes and streaming Internet radio. The entire set-top box experience is apparently smoother and quicker.

Apple has added compatibility with new iTunes Extras and LP formats that were introduced alongside iTunes 9. Now, you can enjoy them in stunning full screen with your Apple TV. New music playing options include support for Genius Mixes and stream Internet radio stations like Indie Pop Rocks! on SOMA FM. The photo browsing features have been updated to support events and faces from your iPhoto library.

It makes enjoying largest selection of on-demand HD movie rentals or purchases, music, HD TV shows and podcasts from the iTunes store. Great new movie title like “Star Trek” or classics like “The Wizard of Oz” and albums are Taylor Swift’s “Fearless (Platinum Edition)” & Jack Johnson’s “En Concert.” iTunes Extras gives movie fans additional content such as deleted scenes, interviews and interactive galleries. iTunes LP is next evolution of music album, delivering a rich experience for select albums combining beautiful design with expanded visual features like live performance videos, lyrics, liner notes, artwork, interviews, photos, album credits and many more.

New software is freely available as automatic download to all Apple TV customers. The 160GB Apple TV is available at Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers for a suggested retail price of $229 (US). It requires 802.11b/g/n wireless network or 10/100 Base-T Ethernet networking, high definition widescreen TV and broadband Internet connection. Availability of video varies by country.
